As a festival or big event organiser, reusable cups are one of those things that you’re already thinking you should be adopting, but for one reason or another you haven’t yet taken the plunge.
As a reusable cup company, you’d naturally expect us to be pushing these. However, let’s take a look at the issue from your side, and address the objections that might be playing on your mind…
Cost
You’re probably thinking that single-use disposable pints and half pints are the most affordable option…and that is true…..but only to a certain extent. Think of the up-front cost you have to pay per item, albeit small – it’s still money that you’re not going to get back. Some of our clients who use our reusable cup system in its optimum way actually turn it into a cost-neutral system and sometimes even a cost-positive solution. Our team will be happy to talk you through how this works, but suffice to say that we give you the tools to use the cup system in whatever way works best for you and your venue, whether it is a levy scheme, a deposit scheme or other.
Oh, and by the way, are you SURE that your disposable pints and half pints are ‘cheap’? They soon won’t be when legislation comes into force later in 2023…
Reusable systems are complicated, aren’t they?
Any new system needs concise information being sent and displayed to customers. The more you can do this, the more seamless the reusable system will be. Have a think about what communication channels you use as an event. It might be pre-event comms such as periodic newsletters and visitor information emails, social media channels, your website and other digital media. The more your visitors know and understand the system in advance of the event, the more they will be engaged with it, and the more successful it will be.
So, systems for reusable cups are complicated? Not necessarily, no!
PR
Whilst we could provide you with a wealth of research about how consumers are becoming increasingly sustainability conscious all the time, you probably don’t need us to tell you. This is an important factor for many visitors who, given clear and concise communications in the lead up to your event and also during your event, will put their waste into the right place. We know this from experience at existing venues around the country – people WANT to do the right thing, so embrace a reusable cup system to help them do this. It provides a great PR story, showing how you as an event or venue is always looking to reduce your environmental impact.
The ‘right thing to do’…
If you’ve got to this stage of the article and are still not convinced, then just think what is the ‘right thing to do’. We’re all aware of the need to reduce our carbon footprint and become carbon-neutral, and if we all do our bit, then we’ve got half a chance of leaving the world a better place for generations to come. Are reusable cups going to make all the difference? No, but they will most certainly help in your endeavours to ‘do the right thing’.
